5th Annual Sandbox Series: MUJERES presents Volcanic – May 26th thru June 10th

Miami Theater Center presents the latest installment of its 5th Annual Sandbox Series: MUJERES presenting Volcanic, new performances by Latina and Hispanic women. Carlota Pradera takes The Sandbox stage on Friday’s and Saturday’s, May 26th – June 10th. Performing a dance solo choreographed and performed by Pradera, Volcanic emerges from the collision of earth, fire and ice, giving birth to the myth of a dynamic heroine. The last installment of the annual Sandbox Series shows Paradera on a brave quest against death to regain her true north.

Comedy Night at American Rock Bar with Freddy Stebbins – May 27th

Kool & The Gang at Pembroke Pines City Center – May 27th

There’s a party goin’ on right here when Kool & the Gang delivers a night of song, celebration and good times on Saturday, May 27th at the Pembroke Pines City Center. The band has scored 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums with hits such as “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Jungle Boogie,” “Summer Madness” and “Open Sesame.” The band has also earned two Grammy Awards and seven American Music Awards.

4th Global LGBTQI Human Rights Conference – May 26th thru 29th

Thought leaders from around the globe will converge on Miami for the 4th Global LGBTQI Human Rights Conference, May 26 – 29, as part of World OutGames Miami 2017, the world’s largest 10-day Sports, Culture and Human Rights event. This well-orchestrated conference will offer a world view of human rights with representation from Brazil, Cuba, Canada, Miccosukee Reservation, St. Lucia, Thailand, Tonga, Uganda, the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela and others.

The three-day conference, which will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, will be a powerful gathering of internationally respected human rights activists, researchers, legal scholars and trade organizations, and will include more than 25 speakers. As many as 35 topics will be focused on three specific tracks: Promoting Inclusivity in Sports (LGB, Intersex, Trans*, Women), Health & Wellness (HIV, Disability, Sexuality, Body Politics, Human Trafficking) and Social Justice (Labor/Trade Unions, Religion, LGBTQI Criminalization, Workplace Issues).

Chardavoine’s Creole Jazz Ensemble at Arts Garage – May 27th

Enjoy the smooth sounds of Chardavoine’s Creole Jazz Ensemble on Saturday, May 27th at Arts Garage. Chardavoine is a concrete manifestation of Haitian jazz, a new genre emerging in jazz today. Haitian-born but Brooklyn-bred, the talented guitarist has covered the gambit of musical styles through the waves of his guitar. He is an incredible musician, a creative artist and a refined professional. He represents the best of modern music and the future of jazz, along with his Creole Jazz Ensemble.

Chardavoine is well known around New York for his association with the great Dave Valentin, who’s a guest on two of his albums. Last year he had the privilege of playing at Aretha Franklin’s birthday bash with the Tito Puente Jr. orchestra.
