Creative Arts 4 Kids at MOCA – October 1st

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is offering a monthly series known as Creative Arts 4 Kids, which occurs the first Saturday of every month. These creative art classes are offered for kids ages 6 through 12. Each month, the class will have a different theme to help kids learn about the elements of art through painting, drawing and sculpting activities in the style of renowned artists.

For October, the theme is Water and Movement, inspired by Helen Frankenthaler. The activity for the children is Water Color Abstract Paintings. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay and create with their children.

Cost: $18 per class, $60 for a four-class series for the general public. $12 per class, $40 for a four-class series for MOCA members, NOMI residents and City employees. There is a $2 discount for each additional child in the household.

Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

September 29th thru October 1st – Journey to Mutum: A Cultural Encounter with the Yawanawá of the Brazilian Amazon. Sacred music. Tribal dance. Experience the never-before-seen rituals of the Yawanawá Tribe of the Brazilian Amazon here on our stage, and be among the first to welcome them to Miami. They will journey from their home to bring an Indigenous celebration that is sure to transport you – don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Free Yoga Classes at Bayfront Park Every Monday, Wednesday & Saturday

Grab your yoga mat, water, and a towel and get to the Tina Hills Pavilion at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami for free yoga classes by the bay every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. All classes are taught by a certified yoga teacher. Beginners, intermediate, and advanced welcome. You must be at least 18 years old and will need to sign a waiver to participate.

Classes will take place in the Bayfront Park office in the event of rain. All classes subject to change/cancellation without notice.

Zun Zún Children Fest – October 1st

Heart in Hands Awards – October 1st

The Heart in Hand Awards is a unique event that will honor five outstanding women in our community while raising funds for No More Tears, a non-profit organization that aids victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. The event will take place at The Sacred Space in Wynwood on October 1, 2016. There will be a beautiful awards ceremony, an amazing silent auction, brunch, and live entertainment.

All proceeds will go directly to No More Tears. This organization is quite unique as nobody takes a salary, 100% of donations go directly to aiding the victims.

This year’s award recipients are Criselda Breene, Belkys Nerey, Rebecca Fishman-Lipsey, Iran Issa Khan, and Tere Blanca.
