Rejoice and Shout Hallelujah

Sister Act The Musical takes you to heaven in this joyous rendition of the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg movie hit. Produced by Whoopi Goldberg herself and Stage Entertainment, Sister Act is presented to South Florida by Broadway in Miami and Bank of America in this fun-filled divine musical comedy at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

With music by Academy Award winner Alan Menken who is best known for his music for Walt Disney Animation Studio’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas, and lyrics by Glenn Slater, Sister Act The Musical enchants its audience with score after score sung by a cast with strong crisp voices.

Screen-Shot-2015-10-01-at-1.49.04-PMBased on the book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, the musical takes on the same plot of the movie with Deloris Van Cartier (Kerissa Arrington) who is an aspiring singer, witnessing a murder by her gangster boyfriend Curtis Shank (Kolby Kindle). Deloris meets with detective Eddie “Sweaty Eddie” Souther (Lamont O’Neal) who suggests Deloris enters a witness protection program to protect her from Shank and puts her in a convent called The Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith as a nun. After taking over a horrific choir, Deloris turns them into a local sensation that makes headlines and draws the attention of Shank and his goons to capture her.

Deloris Van Cartier played by Kerissa Arrington will give you goosebumps from her strikingly remarkable voice. Lamont O’Neal as “Sweaty Eddie” leaves hilarious memorable moments between all cast members, and the perfectly cast of nuns will tickle your funny bone throughout the entire show.

Rejoice and shout hallelujah at the Arsht Center playing now through April 19, 2015.
