The Broadway musical hit, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” presented through the holiday season at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts is a magical journey based on the classic children’s book by Dr. Seuss, with lyrics by Timothy Mason, and music by Mel Marvin. The heart-warming redemption of love captivates the hearts of the audience, bringing a nostalgic feeling for all who grew up on this timeless classic.
The story is narrated by Bob Lauder who plays Old Max, the elderly version of The Grinch’s pet dog and only friend. Bob Lauder enchants the audience with his deep opera-esque voice, and sings the musical’s most popular song, “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” while sounding exactly like Thurl Ravenscroft, the original singer of the classic cartoon show. Matt Weinstein plays the part of the young Max, and brings a lovable passion that is consistently neglected by The Grinch. The Grinch who is played by Stefan Karl brings the animated classic to life with his growling voice and animated portrayal of the cartoon Grinch himself. Genny Gagnon plays the role of Cindy Lou-Who and steals the show with her adorable miniature-self, making not only The Grinch’s heart grow three sizes, but everyone’s in the audience as well.
This amazing production brings the children’s book to life with beautifully colored set designs and transitions, and costumes that surely make you feel you are admiring the book’s illustrations before your eyes. The show’s marvelous performance put on by a high-energy cast is worth taking the entire family out to celebrate the holidays.
